This notice explains how Qissa (operated by Ark Horizon LLC) handles information when an adult orders a personalized printed book.
Policy version: 2026-08-24
This store is for adults. Children should not enter any information. An adult purchaser provides limited details to create the book: the child's first name (or a chosen hero name), age range, language, character traits, and story themes.
What we store and why
To make the book and run its QR read-along, we store the first name provided, the story text and illustrations we generate, and the story settings — this is what lets the QR play the matching read-along at any time.
Who receives it
Our service providers for story/illustration generation, text-to-speech (only when someone plays the read-along), and printing & shipping. They may not use it for advertising or to train models.
No ads, no tracking
The read-along has no advertising, no behavioural tracking, no cookies, and no login. Anyone who has the book or its QR link can open the story.
How long we keep it
We keep the story while its QR read-along is active — at least 10 years, renewed free while we operate the service — because the content is what makes the read-along work.
Your choices
You can turn off or delete a book's read-along at any time (see How deletion works). Deletion cannot remove a first name already printed in the physical book.

Printed Books — Data & Service-Provider Disclosure
When an adult personalizes a book, we use: the child's first name, an age range, chosen story settings (language, theme, character trait, companion), and the avatar the adult builds and approves from menu options. We never ask for or accept a photo of the child — the avatar is a synthetic illustration created from the selected features. We do not collect a child's address, contact details, or any information from the child directly. Every printed book is held for human review before it is submitted for printing.
Who we share it with, and why
| Provider | What it receives | Why | Retention / use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (story generation) | The child's first name, age range, language, theme, trait, companion and story context | To write the personalized stories | Per Anthropic's API terms, inputs/outputs are deleted from their systems within ~30 days (subject to their stated exceptions) and are not used to train models on our paid API. |
| Image provider (OpenAI / Google — avatar & illustrations) | The synthetic avatar's appearance attributes and scene instructions | To draw the avatar and illustrations | No child photo is ever sent. Governed by the provider's API terms; not used to train models on our paid tier. |
| Lulu (print & ship) | The print-ready interior and cover PDFs (which contain the child's first name and synthetic avatar inside the book), plus the recipient's name, shipping address, and contact for delivery | To print and deliver the physical book | Lulu acts as a processor under its Data Processing Agreement; used only to fulfill the order. |
We also store the first name, story, and illustrations on our own secure systems only to run the book's QR read-along, under the parent/guardian consent captured at checkout.
Your controls
- Consent is captured at checkout before any book is made.
- Deletion: the purchaser receives a management link to delete the story, turn off the QR read-along, or read the full Children's Book Privacy Notice at any time.
- The read-along has no ads and no third-party tracking. Anyone who has the printed book or its QR link can open the story.
Real child-photo upload is not offered. Qissa uses a feature-based synthetic avatar builder. Contact: support@qissa-stories.com.
